Alzheimer's patients show elevated active meprin-β in brain and cerebrospinal fluid

Researchers at the Institute for Neurosciences have identified significantly increased levels of the protein meprin-β in both the brain tissue and cerebrospinal fluid of Alzheimer's disease patients. Led by Javier Sáez Valero, this discovery provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's pathology. The elevated meprin-β could serve as a potential biomarker for disease diagnosis and progression monitoring. This finding may help scientists better understand how neurodegeneration develops and could lead to new therapeutic targets for treating this devastating neurodegenerative condition.
