Cancer Patients Need Stronger Voice in Shaping AI for Oncology, Study Shows

An international scoping review by Flinders University researchers examined 2,441 records and found that only 32 studies explored cancer patients', survivors', and caregivers' perspectives on generative AI in their care. The study, published in the European Journal of Cancer, highlights a significant gap in patient input regarding AI implementation in oncology. This lack of patient voice risks developing AI tools that may not align with actual clinical needs and patient values. Experts emphasize that cancer patients and survivors must play a central role in designing and evaluating AI technologies to ensure these tools effectively serve those most affected by the disease.
