Combination Therapy Fails to Improve Survival in Advanced Lung Cancer Trial

A phase 3 clinical trial has shown that sacituzumab govitecan combined with pembrolizumab did not provide statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival compared to pembrolizumab alone for treating metastatic non-small cell lung cancer in patients with high PD-L1 expression. The EVOKE-03/KEYNOTE-D46 trial, which enrolled patients with advanced lung cancer, failed to meet its primary efficacy endpoints, suggesting that the combination therapy does not offer additional benefit over single-agent immunotherapy for this patient population. These findings may impact treatment decisions for patients with advanced lung cancer and high PD-L1 tumor markers. Oncologists will need to continue evaluating other therapeutic approaches to improve outcomes for this group of patients.
