Elevated Nitric Oxide Levels Found in Children With Chest Tightness Asthma

A new study published in Frontiers in Pediatrics reveals that children with chest tightness variant asthma (CTVA) have significantly higher fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) levels and reduced small airway function compared to other asthma presentations. CTVA is a distinct asthma phenotype characterized primarily by chest tightness rather than traditional wheezing or shortness of breath. These findings suggest that measuring FeNO levels could help clinicians better identify and diagnose this specific asthma variant in pediatric patients. Understanding these biomarkers is important for developing targeted treatment strategies and improving asthma management in affected children.
