Everyday Plastic Packaging May Worsen Fatty Liver Disease Risk

Researchers at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine have discovered that polyethylene, one of the world's most common plastics found in everyday packaging, may contribute to fatty liver disease and significantly worsen the condition when combined with unhealthy diets high in burgers and sodas. Microplastics are now ubiquitous in the environment, detected in oceans, drinking water, and human tissues, but their specific health effects remain largely unknown. This new finding suggests that dietary choices combined with plastic exposure create a compounding risk factor for liver disease. The research highlights an emerging public health concern as scientists continue to uncover how microplastics affect human health and metabolism.
