New imaging method links cells' spatial organization to cancer outcomes

Researchers at Karolinska Institutet have developed an imaging method that reveals how the spatial arrangement of cancer cells, immune cells, and support cells within tumors may predict patient outcomes. Tumors function as complex ecosystems called the tumor microenvironment, where different cell types interact in ways that significantly influence disease progression. This doctoral research suggests that analyzing the physical organization of these cells could provide clinically valuable information for predicting treatment response and survival. The findings could help oncologists better understand cancer biology and potentially improve treatment strategies for solid tumors.
