New Research Investigates How Psychedelics Affect Memory Formation and Recall

Finnish psychologist Samuli Kangaslampi is leading a €696,733-funded research project through 2030 to determine whether psychedelics enhance autobiographical memory recall or increase the risk of memory distortion. The study addresses critical clinical and legal questions about psychedelic-assisted therapies, particularly relevant for PTSD and depression treatment. Current evidence does not yet support claims that these substances produce false memories, but rigorous investigation is needed. This research could significantly impact therapeutic protocols and regulatory frameworks for psychedelic medicines in mental health treatment.
