Non-invasive prenatal testing shows comparable results to invasive methods with improved safety

A groundbreaking new technique called noninvasive fetal sequencing (NIFS) can simultaneously screen nearly 23,000 genes to detect genetic abnormalities in fetuses, matching the accuracy of invasive prenatal testing methods while eliminating associated risks. Traditional noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) has revolutionized prenatal diagnostics but remains limited in detecting certain genetic conditions. This innovative NIFS technology will be presented at the European Society of Human Genetics conference and can identify conditions currently detected by NIPT plus many additional genetic causes of fetal anomalies. The advancement offers expectant parents safer, more cost-effective screening options for both routine pregnancies and those with previously detected fetal abnormalities.
