PAHO to Present Regional Guidelines for Strengthening Congenital Rubella Syndrome Surveillance

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) will launch updated regional surveillance guidelines for Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) during a virtual seminar on October 28th. The guidelines establish standardized protocols for detecting, reporting, investigating, and confirming CRS cases across the Americas. These updated standards aim to improve early identification and management of this preventable birth defect caused by maternal rubella infection. Strengthening surveillance systems is critical for monitoring disease trends, identifying outbreaks, and ensuring mothers and children receive appropriate prevention and care services throughout the region.
