Pilot Trial Shows Structured Support May Prevent Weight Regain After GLP-1 Treatment

A pilot randomized trial published in Obesity Science & Practice found that structured support may help limit weight regain after patients discontinue GLP-1 receptor agonist medications. GLP-1 drugs are effective obesity treatments, but many patients stop taking them due to cost, insurance limitations, side effects, or personal preference—often resulting in rapid weight gain. The research suggests that providing organized support interventions after treatment cessation could help attenuate early weight rebound. This finding is significant for patients in Puerto Rico and beyond who face barriers to continuous GLP-1 therapy and need alternative strategies to maintain weight loss.
