Public Health Advances Smoke-Free Policies to Protect Respiratory Health

The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), is strengthening policies to establish completely smoke-free environments and reduce harmful emissions. This technical cooperation initiative aims to protect public health by eliminating exposure to tobacco smoke and other pollutants in shared spaces. The effort is critical for preventing smoking-related diseases including respiratory conditions, heart disease, and cancer. By implementing comprehensive smoke-free policies, the government seeks to safeguard the health of all citizens, particularly vulnerable populations such as children and workers exposed to secondhand smoke.
