Pulmonologists Support E-Cigarette Tax, But Warn It's Not Enough

The Dominican Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery endorses proposed selective taxation on e-cigarettes and vaping devices as a positive step toward reducing respiratory disease. However, experts emphasize that taxation alone is insufficient and must be part of a comprehensive public health policy addressing vaping-related respiratory conditions. The tax could help deter consumption, particularly among young people, but requires complementary measures including education, regulation, and smoking cessation programs. Pulmonologists stress that a multifaceted approach is essential to effectively combat the growing health risks associated with electronic nicotine delivery systems.
