THC and CBD Reduce Agitation in Advanced Dementia, Study Shows

A new clinical trial presented at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference demonstrates that an oral formulation combining THC and CBD significantly reduced agitation in patients with advanced dementia receiving hospice care. The study, while not yet peer-reviewed, offers promising evidence that cannabinoid therapy may help manage behavioral symptoms in end-stage dementia patients who often have limited treatment options. Agitation in advanced dementia is a challenging symptom that frequently requires sedative medications with significant side effects. These findings suggest cannabinoid-based treatments could provide a potentially safer alternative for improving quality of life in vulnerable populations. Further peer-reviewed publication and larger-scale studies are needed to establish optimal dosing and long-term safety profiles.
