Silent artery plaques may appear in one in 13 adults before age 30

A new international study reveals that atherosclerosis, the disease process underlying most heart attacks and strokes, begins much earlier than previously believed and is far more common in young adults. Researchers found that apparently healthy individuals under 30 may already have arterial plaques, with approximately one in 13 adults showing signs of the disease. This silent progression occurs without symptoms, making early detection and lifestyle interventions crucial for preventing cardiovascular complications later in life. The findings underscore the importance of managing risk factors like cholesterol, blood pressure, and lifestyle habits starting in young adulthood.
